Abstract

Objective: To investigate the effect of smoking on sperm DNA integrity and sperm morphology in male infertility patients. Methods: 132 cases of male infertility patients were divided into 2 groups: group A smoked 1 to 5 years;Group B smoked more than five years.Control group were 100 non-smoking male who already had their progenies.Analysis on sperm DNA integrity and sperm morphology were made. Results: DNA fragmentation index(DFI) and sperm deformity rate of group A were significantly higher than that of control group(P0.05),and group B showed higher results(P0.01).Conclusion: Long-term smoking may damage sperm DNA and affect sperm morphology, and thus is one of the causes of male infertility.
