Abstract
Objective:To study the expression of anti-apoptosis protein survivin,in gastric cancer,and to detect its clinicopathologic character and relationship with the expression of bcl-2 and p53. Methods:Immunohistochemical SP(streptavidin-binotin peroxidase) method was adopted to detect the survivin protein expression in normal gastric tissues(10 patients) and survivin,bcl-2,p53 proteins expressions in gastric cancerous tissues(58 patients). Results:No expression of survivin protein was detected in normal gastric tissues,41 of 58(70.7%) was positive in gastric cancer (P0.01). The positive rate of expression of survivin was related to the differentiation,lymph node metastasis,and TNM stage,but not to the invasive depth. Survivin positive cases were associated with bcl-2 expression (81.0% vs. 43.8%,P0.05) and p53 expression (58.1% vs. 22.2%,P0.05). The positive rate of expression of survivin protein had relationship with the expression of bcl-2,p53 proteins in gastric cancerous tissues. Conclusion:Apoptosis inhibition by the abnormal expression of survivin protein may participate in the pathogenesis of gastric cancer. The expression of survivin protein was strongly associated with the abnormal expression of bcl-2,p53 proteins in gastric cancer.
