Abstract
Lactobacillus plantarum 1001(LP1001) was screened from Chinese pickles and showed high antioxidative activities. Its effects on alcohol-induced liver injury were investigated in mouse models with acute and chronic alcoholic liver injury. For both liver injury models,40 male Kunming mice were randomly separated into 5 groups: control group, model group, and low, middle, high dose groups of LP1001.The coefficient of hepatic weight, serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate transaminase(AST),triglyceride(TG) and liver homogenate glutathione(GSH),malonaldehyde(MDA),triglyceride(TG) were determined by biochemical assays.Meanwhile, histological analysis was also carried out.The results indicated that LP1001 feeding could lower the levels of ALT,AST,TG and MDA and increase the GSH levels compared to the model group. The effects changed with the dose of LP1001 supplementation and the high dose group was especially superior to other groups. Moreover, the protective effects were even more significant on chronic model than acute model, which was also confirmed by liver pathology changes.Therefore,LP1001 can provide additional protective and therapeutic strategies for both acute and chronic alcoholic liver injuries.
