Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between CD105 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expressions in the human glioma. Methods The immunohistochemical technique was used to determine the expressions of CDl05 and VEGF in 58 cases of gliomas and 10 specimens of normal brain tissue. The relationship between CD105 and VEGF expressions was analysed. Results Expression of CD105 was negative in all the normal brain tissues and positive in all the glioma tissues. The microvessel density immunohistochemically stained by CD105 (CD105-MVD) under a high-power field (×200) in glioma of grades Ⅰ~Ⅳ was 6.33±2.97, 10.69±2.88, 19.13±5.14 and 25.13±5.51 respectively. CD105-MVD was positively related with the pathological grades of gliomas (P0.01) and significantly different among the gliomas of different grades (P0.01). The positive percentages of VEGF cells in the gliomas of grades Ⅰ~Ⅳ were (15.00±3.39)%, (20.26±9.64)%, (36.19±10.75)% and (55.94±11.69)% respectively, all of which were significant difference from that of the normal brain tissue (P0.01). There was significant difference in the positive percentage of VEGF cells among the gliomas of different grades (P0.01), except between the gliomas of grades Ⅰ and Ⅱ. CD105-MVD was positively correlative to the positive percentage of VEGF cells (P0.01). Conclusion There is positive relationship between CD105-MVD and the positive percentage of VEGF cells, which can be regarded as an indicator of the degree of malignancy in the human glioma.
