Role of receptor of nerve growth factor on invasion of adenoid cystic carcinoma of human salivary glands

Abstract

Objective To study the expression and the role of receptors of nerve growth factor in the perineural invasion of adenoid cystic carcinoma(ACC) of salivary glands.Methods The expression of TrkA and p75 were detected by immunohistochemistry in 40 cases adenoid cystic carcinoma tissues of different human salivary glands.Within the same sample we evaluate the expression of both TrkA and p75.Results In 40 cases of human adenoid cystic carcinoma,TrkA was positive in 36(90%) and p75 was positive in 36(90%).TrkA and p75 were both positive in 33 cases.21 cases showed perineural invasion.The ratio of TrkA/p75 in perineural invasion team was higher than that of non-perineural invasion team(P0.01).Conclusion TrkA may play an important role than p75 in the perineural invasion of adenoid cystic carcinoma of human salivary glands.
