Clinical singnificance of diagnosis of single umbilical artery by prenatal ultrasonography

Objective: To study the clinical singnificance of single umbilical artery by following up the fetus with single umbilical artery.Methods: The 24 018 fetal structure and their placenta and amniotic fluid were observed by ultrasound.The abdomina part,the free part and the part stiking to placenta were examined.Results: 47 fetus with single umbilical artery were discovered from 24018 fetus and the rate was 0.2%.Among the 47 fetus,there were 23 fetus with simple single umbilical artery and 24 fetus with structure abnormality of other system.The chromosomes of 5 fetus were examined.Among these,2 fetus were abnormal and 3 normal.Conclusions: There were close connection between single umbilical artery and congenital abnormal.Single umbilical artery should be used as a soft marker and ultrasound doctors should pay attention to its importance.
