Abstract
Ping means and complete , but no Chinese dictionaries nor thesauruses have mentioned this meaning. Studying the meanings of ping , this paper finds that the meanings and complete could be found everywhere in the poems of the Tang and Song Dynasties. The study shows that the meanings of and complete in ping come from flat and equal . Therefore, it discloses the origin of the name of Japanese letter Hiragana . The Tang Dynasty called the words in half word and full word , so Katakana is the half word , and Hiragana is the full word .
