Abstract

Objective The study was to assess the features of the Chinese Journal of Psychiatry, and evaluate its role in the psychiatry research field Methods A total of 273 original articles with their citations published in the journal from 1996 to 2000 was analyzed The aspects of the articles, such as the authors, authors′ institutions, cooperation rate, citations, citation rate, language of the citations, publication type of citation, Price Index, self citation rate, time distribution and half life of the citation were analyzed Results The Institute of Mental Health of Beijing Medical University and the other nine institutes were core sources of publications Fourteen persons such as CHEN Xing shi, ZHANG Xiang yang, and so on, were the core authors The cooperating rate was 97 8%, and the average cooperation grade was 6 6 The citation rate was 100 0%, and the total number of citations was 2 333, 8 55 in each article averagely; 76 94% of the cited papers published in 10 years previously, with half life of 5 1 years The Price Index was 45 18% The most common language of citations was English Conclusion As a core journal in psychiatry, the Chinese Journal of Psychiatry is making progress and will continue playing a leading role in this field
