Abstract

Some solution culture experiments were carried out to investigate the effects of various cadmium and zinc on activities of antioxidant enzymes in tomato seedlings. The result showed that with the increase in concentration of Cd2+ and Zn2+ , the growth and biomass of tomato seedling were inhibited. Malondialdehyde(MDA) content in roots and leaves produced by membrane lipid peroxidation was enhanced. Activities of antioxidant enzymes including superoxide dismutase(SOD) and peroxidase (POD) were induced to rise. Activities of enzymes changed smoothly treated with low concentration, whereas activities changed sharply with high concentration. The activity of POD in leaves was induced rapidly. The toxicity effects of Cd2+ was higher than that of Zn2+ in tomato seedlings.
