The Parody of Truth in Biographical Writing: A Study of Flaubert’s Parrot

Abstract

The traditional biographical writing is based on the truth,but parody is one of the characteristics of post-modernist biography.In this thesis,the writer presents the artistic treatment of historical truth in Flaubert’s Parrot by Julian Barnes,which includes paradoxical contradiction,diminishing and reconstruction of authority,pastiche method and the confusion between truth and virtuality,in order to explore the uniqueness of post-modernist biographical writing.
