Abstract

The antioxidant activities of Salvia officinalis(sage)extracts from various perspectives were evaluated.Sage powder were extracted with 50% acetone and 70% ethanol,the polyphenol content and antioxidant activity of sage extracts were determined by Folin-Ciocalteu method and DPPH radical scavenge,chelating Fe2+,reducing power,phosphomolybdenum methods,respectively.The result indicated that the polyphenol content of extract in 50% acetone was significantly higher than extract in 70% ethanol.Both of the sage extracts possessed proper free radical scavenging activity,metal ions chelating activity,reduction activity and total antioxidant ability.In general,except for reducing power,the antioxidant activity of sage extract in 50% acetone was higher than in 70% ethanol.
