Abstract

Objective To study the clinical effect of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation in treating patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease complicated with typeⅡrespiratory failure. Methods 48 cases with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease complicated with typeⅡrespiratory failure treated by NIPPV were chosen in my hospital from June 2008 to November 2009,and the Blood gas changes(the value of PH,PaO 2 and PaCO2),hospital course, rate of endotracheal intubation were compared to the 36 cases with COPD being not treated by NIPPV.Results In the treated by NIPPV group, the 24 h blood gas changes significantly improved, the hospital course shortened, and the rate of endotracheal intubation declined after the treatment. The 48 cases in the treated by NIPPV group compared to the 36 cases not treated by NIPPV group showed significant difference,(P0.05).Conclusion NIPPV is an effective method to treat the patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease complicated with typeⅡrespiratory failure, used in the early time may prevent the further development of the disease, shorten the hospital course and decline the rate of endotracheal intubation.
