Abstract
Aim To analyze the normal modal for military diesel engine block. Methods The calculated modes of the block using the finite element method is compared to the experimental values coming from the modal test method to ensure the validity of the finite element model. Results The first five calculated nonrigid modes of the engine block are well agreed with the tested ones. Conclusion The finite element model is valid enough to provide the foundation for the dynamic response evaluation and the dynamic modification.
