Evaluation of water quality in Huaihe River base on the survey data

A survey about water environment status in mainstream and tributaries of Huaihe River was developed to representative sample of Huaihe River Basin inhabitants,including farmers,fishermen and urban residents.Through the survey data,the paper found that the water quality of Huaihe River did not improve during the evaluation period(2005-2010) and water quality differed significantly among river segments;Shahe River and lower midstream of Huaihe River including Bengbu dam,Wuhe section and Hongzehu Lake were in well water quality which maintains swimming and aquaculture usages;Yinghe River and upper midstream of Huaihe were in poor water quality which only fitted agriculture usage;water quality in upper Yinghe River and Huaihe lower midstream improved in 2005-2010 while that in lower Yinghe River and Huaihe upper midstream became worse;the degradation of river ecology was revealed by the decrease of aquatic life amount and riverside forest;from the view of pollution impact,it caused difficulty of local inhabitant to get domestic-use water and lead to loss of fishery industry including the famous fishery downstream Huaihe River-Hongzehu Lake Fishery.
