Abstract

Objective:To investigate the effect of Tea Polyphenols on the proliferation of human cervical carcinoma HeLa cells and its possible mechanism. Methods:The effect of Tea Polyphenols on the growth of cervical carcinoma HeLa cells was tested by MTT assay.Flow cytometry assay was used to detect the effect of Tea Polyphenols on cell cycle and apoptosis rate.Colorimetric assay was used to detect the activity of Caspase-9.Results:The inhibition rate of HeLa cells elevated with increasing of the concentration of Tea Polyphenols in MTT test.Tea Polyphenols could increase the cell number in S phase and decrease the number in G1 phase, the cell growth was arrested in S phase.Tea Polyphenols could induce HeLa cells apoptosis, the apoptosis ratio increased by dose. The activity of Caspase-9 of Tea Polyphenols-treated HeLa cells at different doses were significantly higher than those of contro1 (P0.01).Conclusion:Tea Polyphenols can inhibit the proliferation of human cervical carcinoma cells and induce cell apoptosis. Its possible mechanism may be associated with activating Caspase-9 pathway.
