Abstract

Xu Shen of Eastern Han dynasty is called saint of philogy by posterity for his Explanation of Scripts and Elucidation of Characters. His six principles of constructing and using Chinese characters are still highly valued today by philologists. And his invention of arranging characters by radicals in dictionary compilation has been followed by all subsequent compilers of dictionary. And his explanation of Chinese character by combination of form, sound and meaning has greatly influenced later generations. He is a great man who contributed greatly to the nation and people.
