Abstract
The colour reaction of bismuth(Ⅲ) with chlorophosphonazo TC has been studied. In 0.16 mol·L -1 HClO 4 aqueous solution, chlorophosphonazo TC can react with bismuth(Ⅲ) for 20 minute at room temperature to form a deep blue β complex with a maximum absorption at 706 nm. The composition of the complex is 1∶3 (M∶L), and its apparent molar absorptivity is 2.90×10 5 L·mol -1 ·cm -1 . Beer's law is obeyed over the bismuth concentration range 0~8 μg/25 mL. The proposed method has been applied to the determination of trace bismuth in water sample with satisfactory results.
