Abstract

The writers of Jing School, such as Shen Congwen, had been ignored in Chinese literary circles, largely because critics had equated historical modernity to literary modernity. In fact, the two present a reverse structure with internal tension. The writers of Jing School would come to the reverse consideration of progressed material civilization with retrogressed of morality in their description of healthy humanity. They would thus doubt the material civilization and eventually make Chinese literature a character of modernity.
