Abstract

To study the effects of different months of age on the slaughtering performance and other main indexes of the mutton sheep, compare and analyze the heterosis of hybrid varieties. The F2 hybrid of Bahan mutton sheep and small- tailed Han sheep( ♀) at 4,5,6 and 8 months of age under the same feeding conditions were used for the slaughter test. The results showed that the growth rates of body length and body depth of the F2 hybrid of Bahan mutton sheep were significantly higher( P 0. 05) than those of small- tailed Han sheep; the backbones, leg bones and ribs of the F2 hybrid of Bahan mutton sheep were higher than those of small- tailed Han sheep, and the 1 /2 net meat weight of the F2 hybrid of Bahan mutton sheep was extremely significantly higher( P 0. 01) than that of small- tailed Han sheep. The results indicate that with respect to small- tailed Han sheep, the F2 hybrid of Bahan sheep was small and stout in size, but its growth rate was higher than that of small- tailed Han sheep, and its meat production performance is better than that of small- tailed Han sheep.
