Abstract
The synthesis of ethyl cellulose was studied by one-step method, with toluene as diluent and orthogonal test was adopted. The results showed that the process of one-step synthesis method was easier, the production cost was lower, and the substitution degree was slightly lower than that by two-step method on the basis of 1 molar cellulose. The optimal process parameters to synthesize ethyl cellulose were determined as follows: the dosage of toluene was 13 molar, the dosage of solid sodium hydroxide was 30 molar, the dosage of ethyl chloride was 35 molar, etherification temperature 140℃, etherification time 12 h, the ethoxyl content reaches 44.2%.
