Abstract
Objective To analyze the population structure of voluntary apheresis blood donors in Dongguan city,establish the corresponding measures for recruiting and retaining apheresis blood donors. Methods Using Tangshan computer software,the data of apheresis donors from 2010 to 2012 were statistically analyzed. Resluts There were 7 668 apheresis blood donations from 2010 to 2012. There were 7 169 male donors( 93. 5%) and 499 female donors( 6. 5%). 7 286 donors were Han Chinese( 95%) and 386 donors were in other ethnic groups( 5%). 3 102( 40. 4%) donors were employed in an unclassifiable occupation. 3 410( 44. 4%) donors completed high school or technical secondary school. Most donors were aged form 25 ~ 45 years. Non-native population accounted for 82. 2% of all donors. Conclusion Voluntary apheresis blood donors in Dongguan city have an unbalanced structure in gender,age,level of education and occupation. There are more male and lower educated donors. The apheresis donation rate in native residents,female residents and highly educated people are low. Our investigations indicate that we need strengthen targeted promotion and recruitment and raise blood donation rate so as to ensure adequate blood supply.
