Observations on the Efficacy of Acupuncture and Moxibustion plus Psychotherapy in Treating Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Herniation

Objective To investigate the efficacy of combined use of acupuncture,dynamic moxibustion and psychotherapy in treating lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. Methods Sixty patients meeting the diagnostic criteria of lumbar intervertebral disc herniation were allocated,according to a principle of randomization,to two groups. The treatment group of 30 patients received acupuncture,dynamic moxibustion and psychotherapy and the control group of 30 patients,simple acupuncture. Results The total efficacy rate was 90.0% in the treatment group and 76.7% in the control group. There was a statistically significant difference in the total efficacy rate between the two groups (P0.05). Conclusion The combined use of acupuncture,dynamic moxibustion and psychotherapy is more effective than simple acupuncture in treating lumbar intervertebral disc herniation and has great significance for the treatment of the disease.
