Observations on the Efficacy of Phased Acupuncture in Treating Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Herniation

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of phased acupuncture in treating lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. Methods One hundred and eighty patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation were randomly allocated to a treatment group of 120 cases and a control group of 60 cases.The treatment group received phased acupuncture and the control group,conventional acupuncture.The therapeutic effects were compared after 4 courses of treatment.The recurrence rates were compared after six months' follow-up.Results The total efficacy rate was 97.5%in the treatment group and 88.3%in the control group;there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).The recurrence rate was 8.6%in the treatment group and 20.8% in the control group;there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Phased acupuncture has a better effect than conventional acupuncture in treating lumbar intervertebral disc herniation.The former also has a lower recurrence rate.
