Abstract

The effects of plasma arc quenching process parameters on the hardness and the surface friction and wear resistance of 45 steel were studied. The results show that: when the distance of the nozzle to the workpiece is 8 mm,the better hardening effect is obtained;when the other quenching parameters remain unchange, with scanning speed increasing, the hardness tends to basically unchange;plasma arc quenching produces 5μm wave degrees, prompting the movement surface to produce wedge,so that the boundary lubrication is transformed into mixed lubrication, which makes the friction factor reduce, wear resistance increase. The process has low cost, simple operation, high thermal efficiency. It can be achieved that parts or components partially quench, and the high performance surface of material is obtain.
