Blink Reflex and Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential in the Diagnosis of Brainstem Infarction

Abstract

Objective: To investigate blink reflex and brainstem auditory evoked potential in the diagnosis the function of brainstem in brainstem infarction. Methods: Forty patients proved brainstem infarction by MR were investigated compared with 40 healthy people. Patients were examined by BR and BAEP respectively. The mean incubation period in BR were calculated. The wave shape,the peak latency and the inter-peak latency of each wave in BAEP were observed. Results: In 40 patients of brainstem infarction,33 patients(82.5%) were detected to be injury in brainstem by BR,32 patients(80%)were detected to be injury in brainstem by BAEP,37 patients(92.5%)were detected to be injury in brainstem by connected detection BR and BAEP. Conclusion: Both BR and BAEP can reflect the affection in brainstem sensitively. Both things reflect the foundation of pathology and physiology from different anatomy pathways. They can provide the diagnosis of brainstem an addition and conduce to level diagnosis.
