Abstract
Chinese and Japanese classical gardens are all based on Taoism,Confu-cius and Buddhism, but these three theo-ries are shown differently in the gardens of the two countries.Chinese emphasize on Confucius so that the gardens appear with literal characteristics of stepping-into-world and a quality suggestive of poetry or painting, while Japanese emphasize on Buddhism so that the gardens appear with monk ' s characteristics of loafing-from-world and dull and lonely.Furthermore the author find two countries ' gardens simi-larly take Taoist natural mountains and water for granted.
