Individual Application of Mitomycin-C in Combined Trabeculectomy

Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of individual application of mitomycin-C(MMC) in combined trabeculectomy.Methods Different concentrations of MMC were intraoperatively used at different times in 320 glaucoma patients(436 eyes) undergoing combined trabeculectomy,according to age and Tenon's capsule thickness.All patients were followed up for 6 months.Results The postoperative visual acuity remained unchanged in 298 of 436 eyes(68%),improved by 1 to 3 lines in 96 eyes(22%),and decreased by 2 to 3 lines in 42 eyes(10%).TypeⅠfiltering blebs were observed in 134 eyes,typeⅡin 286 eyes,type Ⅲ in 16 eyes,and type Ⅳ in 0 eyes.All eyes had an intraocular pressure(IOP) of less than 2.66 kPa.Conclusion The individual application of MMC is effective and safe in combined trabeculectomy.
