Trabeculectomy for acute primary angle closure glaucoma.

Abstract

Objective To comparative evaluate the results of trabeculectomy with mitomycin C (MMC) and trabeculectomy in the treatment of acute primary angle-closure glaucoma. Methods 67 medically unresponsive cases of APACG were divided by two groups,which underwent trabeculectomy with MMC and trabeculectomy. Results Mean follow-up time was 11.12±3.57 months (range, 6~18 months).The trabeculectomy with MMC group (35 eyes),absolute success in intraocular pressure (IOP) control was obtained 29 eyes (82.86%),qualified success was achieved 33 eyes (94.29%). The trabeculectomy group (32 eyes),absolute success in IOP control was obtained 19 eyes (59.38%),qualified success was achieved 24 eyes (75.00%). There was significant difference between IOP control in two groups. The main postoperative complications were anterior uveitis and posterior synechia of the iris. Conclusion Trabeculectomy with MMC may be the procedure of choice in medically unresponsive cases of APACG.
