Abstract
[Objective]To understand the status of accidental death and causes of death,provide evidence for making health development grogram and health policy.[Methods]Investigation on accidental death among residents in Shouguang in 2006 was conducted.[Results]Among 1 017 023 residents investigated from January,2006 to December 2007,623 death cases were reported with the mortality of 61.26/100 000.Male accounted for 87.67 /100 000,while female accounted for 34.36/100 000.Age-specific death rate in the residents aged under 1,1-4 and 5-9 was 38.70/100 000,5.29/100 000 and 10.82/100 000 respectively.Death in residents aged from 15 to 59 accounted for 70.95%.There was a significant difference of the mortality among various age groups(P0.01).The first 4 leading causes of death for females and the residents were traffic accidents,suicide,drowning,and accidental poisoning,for males in turn were traffic accidents,suicide,drowning,and electric shock.66.8% of the death were traffic accidents.Mortality in male was 2.55 times than that in female(P0.01).There was a difference of the mortality in urban/town areas and rural areas(P0.05).[Conclusion]Road traffic accidents,suicide,drowning,and accidental poisoning are the major causes of death in Shouguang City.Accidental death in male is substantially higher than that in female.Death by traffic accidents is is going up.
