Effect of Tropisetron and Ondansetron on Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting in Patients Undergoing Abdominal Hysterectomy under General Anesthesia

Objective To compare the efficacy of tropisetron and ondansetron in the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting after gynecological surgery under general anesthesia.Methods Forty-five ASAⅠ～Ⅱ patients undergoing abdominal hysterectomy under general anesthesia were randomly divided into three groups(n=45).At the end of the surgery,the patients were given intravenously tropisetron 4 mg,ondansetron 8 mg,or normal saline respectively.The episodes of nausea and vomiting were observed for 24 h after operation.Results The effective rate of tropisetron and ondansetron to inhibit the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting was 73% and 60% respectively.Both of them significantly reduced the degree of postoperative nausea and vomiting(P0.05).There was no significant difference between tropisetron and ondansetron in efficacy(P0.05).Conclusion Intravenous injection of tropisetron 4 mg or ondansetron 8 mg at the end of the surgery can significantly reduce the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing abdominal hysterectomy under general anesthesia.
