Study of analgesic effect of acupuncture on patients with moderate and severe primary dysmenorrheal

Objective:To observe the analgesic effect of acupuncturing at Shiqizhui(EX-B8) and other acupoints for patients with moderate and severe primary dysmenorrheal.Methods:Total 37 moderate and 44 severe primary dysmenorrhea patients were selected.They were all treated at multi-point group[Shiqizhui(EX-B8),Ciliao(BL32),Diji(SP8),Sanyinjiao(SP6)]when sudden intense pain occurred,retaining the needle for 30 min.Visual analogue scale(VAS) values were compared in the time before acupuncture,in 5 min,10 min,20 min and 30 min after needle insertion,as well as in 30 min,60 min and 120 min after needle withdrawal separately.Results:In 5 min after needle insertion,the immediate analgesia in multi-point group appeared and this effect was maintained in 120 min after needle.Conclution:During the attack of dysmenorrhea,multi-point acupuncture at Shiqizhui(EX-B8) and other acupoints has apparent immediate analgesia on moderate and severe primary dysmenorrhea and there is no apparent correlation with intensity of primary dysmenorrhea pain.
