Abstract

Objective To discuss the impacts and effects of nursing intervention on the sleep conditions of internal medicine patients. Methods Eighty cases of internal medicine patients hospitalized from Jan. 2012 to Jan. 2013 in our hospital were selected and all the patients were randomized into observation group and the control group.Routine nursing was given to the control group while for the observation group, nursing intervention to improve sleep patterns was added besides routine nursing. The pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI) and other objective sleep index were compared between the two groups. Results Through comparison of the scores of each factor in PSQI between the two groups, there were no significant difference before the nursing in aspect of sleep time, sleep efficiency, sleep quality, difficulty sleeping, time to fall asleep, application of hypnotics and daytime dysfunction(P0.05);while after the nursing, the scores of the above factors in the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group(P 0.05).Through the comparison of the sleep patterns such as sleep latency, sleep time and arousals, the sleep latency and sleep time of the observation group were significantly longer than those of the control group, while the arousal times of the observation group were significantly fewer than that of the control group, the differences were all statistically significant(P0.05). Conclusion Enhance the nursing intervention on the sleep conditions of internal medicine patients can evidently improve the sleep quality of patients, which should be further promoted in the future clinical practice.
