Effects of pravastatin on plasma lipid and hemorheology in patients with hyperlipidemia

Abstract

OBJECTIVE To study the effects of pravastatin on plasma lipid and hemorheology in patients with hyperlipidemia.METHODS Fifty four patients with hyperlipidemia were treated with pravastatin for 12 weeks.The plasma lipid and all parameters of hemorheology were measured before and after treatment.RESULTS (1) The levels of serum total cholesterol,triglyceride,low density lipoprotein cholesterol were significantly reduced after treatment (all P 0.05 ), but high density lipoprotein cholesterol was increased.(2) Pravastatin could greatly decrease low shear of blood specific viscosity,plasma viscosity,erythrocyte aggregation index,hematocrit and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (all P 0.05 ).CONCLUSIONS The pravastatin not only can regulate blood lipid,but also can improve hemorheology in patients with hyperlipidemia.
