Surgery for recurrent pterygium and its mechanism

Abstract

Objective: To observe the therapeutic effect of amniotic membrane transplantation(AMT),conjunctival autograft,conjunctival limbus plus corneal plus selerotic autograft for pterygium.Methods:Among the 186 eyes (150 cases) with pterygium,56 eyes were treated by AMT after excision of pterygium,62 eyes (46 cases) by conjunctival autograft,and 68 eyes (54 cases)by conjunctival,limbus corneal selerotic autograft.Result: There were 18 (18/62,29.1%) recurrent cases in conjunctival autograft,11 (11/56,19.6%) recurrent cases in AMT,and 3 (3/68,4.4%)recurrent cases in conjunctival,limbus corneal selerotic autograft.Conclusion:Conjunctival plus limbus corneal plus selertotic autograft may be more effect for pterygium with its low recurrent rate.
