Abstract
MPLS(Multi-protocol Label Switching) is a third Level switching technology based on the label mechanisms.MPLS separates the path-selection and transmission,then the label mechanisms will determine the network path for which the data-group to pass through.The Traffic engineering is defined as a part of network engineering.It solves the problems of evaluation and optimization of the network capability in actual IP network.The main targets are to optimize the network resource usage and traffic capability,increasing the network operating efficiency and reliability.This paper introduces the operating principle of MPLS and traffic engineering concept as well as the model.It analyses the advantage of MPLS and summarizes an implementing method in traffic engineering.Finally,it expects the future development of MPLS in traffic engineering.
