Abstract
The graft copolymerization of starch with [2-(Methacryloyloxy)ethyl]dimethyl (3-sulfopropyl)ammonium hydroxide inner salt was studied in aqueous solution using ammonium ceric nitrate/acid redox system as the initiator. The effects of various factors, such as the concentrations of ammonium ceric nitrate, catalyst acid, starch and monomer, as well as the temperature and time, on the grafting parameters were investigated. In addition, the graft copolymers were characterized by infrared analysis and elemental analysis.
