Abstract

Objective To observe the effects of Gynostemma Pentaphyllam (GP) on myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury(MIRI) in rats. Methods The MIRI model was establshed by left descending anterior coronary artery (LAD) ligation for 30min,followed by 40min of reperfusion.50 male wistar rats were divided into five groups:sham operated control group (sham),ischemia reperfusion group (IR),GP1(100mg/kg) group,GP2(50mg/kg) group and salvia miltiorrhizae (SM,100mg/kg) group.after primedication with GP or SM,the contents of malondialdehyde(MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in myocardium, creatine kinase (CK) in serum, nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin (ET) in plasma were measured. Results Compared with sham group, the concentrations of MDA,CK and ET were significantly increased, and SOD and NO were markedly decreased in IR group(P0.01).GP obviously reduced the levels of MDA,CK and ET,and raised SOD and NO(P0.01,vs IR group). Conclusion GP has significantly protective effect on myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury in rats,it may be related to inhibiting lipid peroxide and ET release, increasing SOD activity and NO release.
