Analysis on the risk factors of overweight and obesity among residents in Hubei

Objective To find out the prevalence and related factors associated with overweight and obesity among urban and rural residents in Hubei province.Methods The survey was carried out according to the requirements of thenutrition and health survey of residents in Hubei province in 2002.Results The total overweight rate was 17.44% and the obesity,5.01%.In urban,the overweight rate was 17.95% and the obesity,5.70%,and the female was higher than that of the male.In rural areas,the overweight rate was 17.09% and the obesity,4.54%,there was no statistic difference between male and female.The rate of overweight and obesity increased obviously with age.The obesity rate of 70-79 age group reached a peak.There were higher rates among officials,illiteracy and those with higher income,however,there were lower rates among farmers,people with higher education level and people with lower income.Conclusions Overweight and obesity are prevalent in Hubei province,higher than the national average over the same period.
