Cross-sectional study of overweight and obesity in the middle-aged and elderly population in Hubei province

Objective To find out the prevalence and related factors associated with overweight and obesity for the middle-aged and elderly population in Hubei province,China,so as to provide guidance and data for overweight and obesity prevention and control.Methods Cross-sectional study for the prevalence and related factors of overweight and obesity of the people aged above 35 and elderly was performed.Results The average prevalence rate of overweight and obesity for people aged above 35 years and elderly was 4.4%,and 30.2%,29.6% in male and female respectively.The rates for rural,town and urban were 26.7%,29.7% and 31.9% respectively.The rates increased with the increase of food consumption.The incidence rates of chronic diseases in the people of overweight and obesity were obviously higher then those in the non-overweight people.Conclusion Overweight and obesity are prevalent in Hubei province.The prevalence rate of overweight and obesity are different in gender,age,living area and food consumption.Overweight and obesity control is one of the emphasis for the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases.
