Study on the Correlation between Serum Concentration of Hepatocyte Growth Factor and Gastric Cancer

Objective To study the clinical value of analysis of serum hepatocyte growth factor concentrations in patients with gastric cancer.Methods Serum HGF levels were measured by ELISA in 60 patients with gastric cancer,15 patients with gastric benign diseases and 12 healthy controls.Of the 60 patients with gastric cancer,40 were treated by surgical resection,12 were treated by non-surgical treatment,and 8 were recurrent patients after surgical treatment.Results Serum HGF levels were higher in patients with gastric cancer than in those with gastric benign diseases and healthy controls(P0.05).Patients with recurrent gastric cancer had significantly higher serum HGF concentrations than those with gastric benign diseases and healthy controls(P0.01).In the 40 patients treated by surgical resection,serum HGF levels were significantly decreased after surgery resection of the tumors(P0.01).Significantly higher levels of serum HGF were observed in patients with recurrent gastric cancer than in those treated by surgery and non-surgical treatment.Conclusion HGF may play an important role in the carcinogenesis and progression of the gastric cancer.Analysis of serum HGF concentrations is useful in evaluating the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer.
