Characteristics analysis on ABP and BPV of aged essential hypertensive patients associated with diabetes mellitus

Objective To observe the features of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) on ambulatory blood pressure(ABP) and blood pressure variability(BPV) in aged essential hypertensive(EH) patients.Methods The patients were divided into two groups of aged essential hypertensive with and without diabetes mellitus.The objective group was targeted to the essential hypertensive patients associated with diabetes mellitus and the comparative group was based on the essential hypertensive patients only.Twenty-four hours recordings of ambulatory blood pressure were performed and analyzed.Results Mean daytime systolic blood pressure(dmSBP),mean daytime pulse pressure(dmPP),daytime SBP standard deviation(dSBPSD) and its coefficient of variance(dSBPCV)((P0.05) of EH patients with diabetes mellitus(DM) were all significantly higher than those of EH patients without DM respectively.Conclusion Diabetes mellitus could lead to increase on ABP and BPV of the aged essential hypertensive patients.Therefore,the assessments on ABP and BPV should be launched early,which plays valuable role in diagnosis,treatment and prognosis.
