Abstract
Objective To study the effect of trifluoperazine(TFP)on the concentration of malondialdehyde(MDA)and the enzyme activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD)in the hippocampus of epileptic rats. Methods The models of epilepsy were made by intraperitoneal injection of pentylenetetrazol and the contents of NO,MDA and SOD of all the epileptic hippocampus were assayed and dealt with all data by statistical analysis. Results The latent period of seizure in the three TFP group was obviously prolonged. The contents of NO and MDA in the seizure group and the three TFP group increased compared with the control group(P0.05), and the level of NO and MDA presented significant positive correlation(P0.01).The SOD vitality decreased(P0.05).Com- pared with the three TFP group, the content of NO and MDA of seizure group increased obviously and the SOD vitality decreased(P0.05).The level of NO and MDA presented significant negative correlation(P0.01).Conclusions Seizure can result in a great deal of consumption of SOD in hippocampus and quantities of productions of NO and MDA,TFP could scavenge free radicals in the brain tissue of PTZ-induced epileptic animals.
