Clinical observation on povidone-iodine in prevention infection of incision post appendectomy in 112 cases

Objective To investigate the clinical value of povidone-iodine used in preventing appendicitis incision from infection.Methods Totally 188 cases were randomly divided into two groups: treatment group and control group.The treatment group were treated with dipping in 0.5% povidone-iodine five minutes after sutured peritoneum besides the conventional treatmentmethod of the control group and then washouted with normal sodium.Results Three of the 112 cases in treatment group got infection.The infection rate was 2.86%.12 in 76 cases go infection in control group,and the infection rate was 12.79%.There was significant different infection rate difference between two groups by statistical analysis.Incisional inflection rate was reduced than control group,has the meaning of statistics.Conclusion The incision washouted with 0.5% povidone-iodine proves to be an effective method for preventing incisions of appendectomy from infecting.
