Effect of tympanostomy tube insertion on secretory otitis media

Objective To explore the effect of tympanostomy tube insertion for secretory otitis media and the measures for complications.Methods A total of 238 cases of secretory otitis media treated with tympanostomy tube insertion were retrospectively analyzed the therapeutic method,curative effect and complications.Results The total effective rate was 96.22%.No case was valid due to tympanic membrane thinning,upper respiratory tract infection during tube insertion treatment,tube removal caused by excessive invagination and other complications.Complications occurred in 38 cases,mainly including otorrhea,tympanosclerosis,removal of indwelling tube,tympanum granulation formation,tympanum shrinking and permanent tympanum perforation,in which 34 cases were improved or cured.Conclusion Tympanostomy tube insertion is simple and effective for secretory otitis media.The postoperative complications as otorrhea and tympanosclerosis should be treated timely and effectively.
