An Interpretation of Aesthetic Connotations of the Melancholy Expressed in the Poems by Yang Ji

The poems by Yang Ji marks the time he lives when the Yuan Dynasty is shifting to the Ming Dynasty.Being limited in amount,his poems express endless melancholy which reflects the impacts by the living environment in his day.An overview of all his poems finds that the melancholy expressed by Yang Ji can be briefly divided into three groups: sadness of a scholar;sadness of biding farewell and sadness of his unfulfilled political ambitions.Observation and analysis of the melancholy in his poems lead to an understanding of the scholars at the turning of Yuan Dynasty to Ming Dynasty.
