A study of the clinical characters and EEG of 86 patients with temporal lobe epilepsy

Objective To explore the features of temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE)′s clinical characters and electroencephalogram(EEG).Methods Gave 86 patients who had already been diagnosed TLE an EEG and Video-EEG(VEEG) per capita,and analysed the outcomes according to their clinical symptoms.Results There were 39 normal EEG outcomes and 47 abnormal EEG outcomes among 86 patients,and there were 5 normal VEEG outcomes and 81 abnormal VEEG outcomes.There were 30 patients who had epileptiform discharge in their left temporal lobes,27 patients in their right temporal lobes,18 patients in their bilateral temporal lobes and 6 patients had epileptiform waves during excessive ventilation test.The most symptom was tonic clonic seizure in TLE;the epileptiform waves of patients with TLE were often distributed over unilateral or bilateral temporal lobes.Conclusion The epileptiform waves play an important role in the diagnosis of TLE;VEEG is an efficient method for the diagnosis and localization of TLE.
