Abstract
【Objective】To investigate the protective effects and its mechanism of edaravone on rats kidney after cardiopulmonary resuscitation. 【Methods】Thirty-six male SD rats were randomly divided into group A (sham control group), group B (resuscitation control group) and group C (treatment with edaravone group), with 12 rats in each group. Cardiac arrest was induced by asphyxiation combined with ice-cold potassium chloride, and resuscitation was started at five minutes after arrest. Twenty-four hours after resuscitation, the serum levels of urea and creatinine, renal SOD activity and kidney MDA contents were detected, the apoptosis of renal tubule epithelium was assessed. 【Results】Compared with those in the group A, the serum levels of urea and creatinine, kidney MDA contents and the number of apoptotic cells were significantly increased, renal SOD activity was significantly decreased in group B. In group C, the serum levels of urea and creatinine, kidney MDA contents and the number of apoptotic cells were lower than those in group C, renal SOD activity was higher than that in group B. 【Conclusion】Edaravone can protect renal function in rats after cardiopulmonary resuscitation, partly through abatement of oxyradical lesion and inhibition of cell apoptosis.
