Abstract

Objective To discuss the safety and effectiveness of laser subepithelial keratomileusis(LASEK) for hyperhigh myopia. Methods One hundred and fifty-one patients(302 eyes) with hyperhigh myopia underwent LASEK in our hospital from January 2007 to December 2009 were chosen, based on the myopic degree, the patients were divided into group Ⅰ(from-10.00 D to-12.00 D,174 eyes) and group Ⅱ(from-12.25 D to-16.00 D,128 eyes).Patients were followed up more than 12 months, the postoperative ocular reaction, corneal healing, uncorrected visual acuity, spherical equivalent, haze, intraocular pressure were observed. Results The postoperative uncorrected visual acuity equal to or more than 1.0 was in 148 eyes(85.1%) of group Ⅰand 70 eyes(54.7%) of group Ⅱ,there was significant difference(χ2 = 33.878,P=0.000);Haze with grade 0.5 to Ⅰ happened in 5 eyes(2.9%) of group Ⅰ and 6 eyes(4.7%) of group Ⅱ,there was no statistical difference(χ2=0.691,P=0.406),the grade of all haze were lower than 0.5 after treatment from 3 months to 6 months;Intraocular pressure was increased and needed medicine to control in 36 eyes(20.7%) of groupⅠand 37 eyes(28.9%) of group Ⅱ,there was no statistical difference(χ2=2.716,P=0.099).There were statistical differences in spherical equivalent at postoperative 3 months,6 months and 12 months between two groups(P0.05 or 0.01).Conclusion LASEK can correct hyperhigh myopia, but the intraocular pressure should be monitored to prevent the occurrence of steroid-induced glaucoma.
