Half-year efficacy analysis of laser-assisted subepithelial keratomileusis for high myopia

Abstract

Objective To study the half-year efficacy of laser-assisted subepithelial keratomileusis (LASEK) for high myopia and the related factors. Methods The efficacy of 109 eyes treated with LASEK was observed for half year, and the eyes were divided into three groups according to the preoperative spherical equivalent (SE): Group Ⅰ(23 eyes, -6.00 to -9.00 D), Group Ⅱ (56 eyes, -9.25 to -12.00 D), and Group Ⅲ (30 eyes, over -9.00 D), and the postoperative uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), HAZE, corneal curvature, HT and intraocular pressure in each group were analyzed. Results in each group the postoperative UCVA was markedly improved in comparison to preoperative eyes (p0.001),corneal curvature reduced significantly (p 0.001); the incidence rate of HAZE was increased with the degree of visual acuity. And improved obviously at a 6th month in comparison to 1st month in each group after operation (p0.001). After surgery the myopia regression of each group was increased, and the myopia regression increased with the degree of visual acuity. The postoperative intraocular pressure stepped down significantly at 6th month compared with the ante months (p0.01) and pro-operation (p =0.00). Conclusion LASEK is an effective treatment for high and hyper-high myopia, and there is a bad predictability and high incidence of HAZE during the treatment.
