Abstract
Benzyl acetate was synthesized with benzyl alcohol and glacial acetic acid as raw materials, cyclohexane as water carrier and ammonium ferric sulfate dodecahydrate as catalyst. The influences of water carrier, catalyst and the ratio of the acid to the alcohol on esterification were studied. The optimum conditions of this action were as follows: n(benzyl alcohol)∶n(glacial acetic acid)=2∶7, the amounts of benzyl alcohol, catalyst and water carrier were 21g,4g and 15mL respectively. The yield of benzyl acetate was 55.8%,the content of benzyl acetate was 85.8% analyzed by gas chromatograph and the presence of benzyl acetate was confirmed by IR and MS.
